Clubs & Activities

This year we will start a Student Council Leadership Club. This club will consist of a group of student leaders who are elected by their classmates to represent the school community. This club will give students the chance to practice leadership, teamwork, and responsibility in a fun and supportive environment.

Art club is only offered to 5th graders, and it takes place once a week.  Joining art club allows students to create and make new art outside of their class projects.  Students are able to spend more time mastering techniques and explore new ways of making art.  The art club always has members with different skill levels but they all have the same level of love for art. 

Garrettford's Running Club consists of 4th and 5th grade students who are passionate about setting goals for themselves and finding the strength to achieve them. Members are constantly encouraging their peers to push themselves out of their comfort zone to achieve personal growth. 
     Our main goal is to train and condition for the annual Brad Schoener Music Man 5k. Members gradually increase their running distance each week.  We begin the club in early March with several one mile runs. The club ends in mid-May when all of the runners successfully complete the Music Man 5k at Arlington Cemetery.
     The club also consists of many staff members to help keep the students motivated and safe. Volunteerism is another aspect of the club that helps to create a sense of pride here at Garrettford Elementary.

Reading Olympics is a countywide reading event that encourages students to increase the quality and quantity of books they read for enjoyment.  The Reading Olympics program is based upon the belief that good reading habits form the foundation for a productive and successful life.  This program is currently active in Delaware and surrounding counties and attracts thousands of participants each year.  At Garrettford, Reading Olympics is open to fourth and fifth grade students.
